The City of Aurora Cultural Services Division provides a multitude of theatre outreach programs. We can tailor an experience specific to your students, or adapt from any of the various subjects and program types listed here.

Workshops are typically 45 minutes to three hours, single sessions, and may be presented in a small series. Theatre outreach programs can be done at the theatre, or brought to your school or organization. We can build a program specific to your students or you can choose a topic from the list below.
Learn stage configurations, stage directions & geometrical shapes in fun games and exercises. GRADES: K-2
Afternoon at the Improv
Explore acting, storytelling & improvisational techniques. GRADES: 3-12.
African Folk Tales
Instructor introduces students to an African folk tale & guides them through a performance of their own version of the story using traditional story telling methods. GRADES: K-6
Fractured Fairy Tales
Students perform a parody of familiar fairy tale. GRADES: K-5
Instructor/Actor/Director guides students through an interactive performance where students embody roles of mythological heroes, heroines, gods and goddesses. There will be togas! GRADES: 5-12.
It’s Greek to Me
Explore classical Greek theatre. Students perform choral scenes from classic Greek tragedy in verse. Two to four visits. GRADES:5-12.
To Kill a Mockingbird, The Prince and the Pauper, The Crucible, Animal Farm, etc. Explore classic works of literature and discover meaning, style and author’s voice. Make these works relevant to your peers through theatrical adaptation.
Native American Folk Tales
Explore Native American Culture through music & folktales. GRADES: K-6
Playwrighting, Screen Writing and Adaptations
Professional playwright uses dramatic improvisation to guide students in the writing process; from ideas & inspiration to plot, character development & dialogue construction, eventually creating their own unique style. GRADES: 5-12. Multiple visits.
Explore poetry by reading out loud and acting it out. Understand it through group discussion and exploration. Learn about rhythm by moving your body. Create your own poetry using similar techniques.
Conquer the number one fear in America, public speaking. Learn to warm up your body, voice and mind, rehearse to gain confidence and bust nerves with some simple acting techniques. Advanced: Learn to reach and engage your audience through preparation, emotion, and dynamic speaking.
Make works of literature come alive for your students. Professional actors will guide students in dramatic readings. GRADES: 5-12
Study Shakespeare’s sonnets, soliloquies & scenes. Bring them to life through improvisation & games. Gain a historical perspective into the Elizabethan period. Excellent preparation for the DPS Shakespeare Festival. GRADES: 5-12
Learn Basic stage hand to hand combat. GRADES: 5-12
Learn the art & function of set design for the theatre. GRADES: 5-12
Learn basic elements of stage makeup. Requires materials fee. GRADES: 5-12
Construct a scene by learning the elements of a story & acting it out. GRADES: K-12
MONTHS: Year round. Age range, costs & schedules vary, call for details. LENGTH: Daily or weekly multiple visits.

Stage Accents & Dialects
Learn a dialect for school play or just for fun. Standard British, New York City, Standard American Southern & many more. GRADES: 5-12
Learn basic stage carpentry, set painting, light, sound & set design from professionals. Field trip to Aurora Fox. GRADES: 6-12
Have a dramatic birthday at the Fox or at your house with one of our actors/directors guiding you and your friends through creative dramatics or comedy improvisation workshops. Then have your cake and eat it too. TIME: Year Round. Weekends. Themes including: Pirates, Kings and Queens and Greek Mythology
