Technical Theater Internships

MENTOR: BRANDON PHILIP CASE | TECHNICAL DIRECTOR, AURORA FOX

The Technical Theater Intern observes and participates in implementing the design elements of a live stage production. This will include scenic construction, light hang and focus, sound rigging, and day-to-day operations of the scene shop.

Responsibilities will include assisting technical staff and production designers with a variety of routine tasks and projects for the production that might include tasks like observing and assisting in the planning and implementation of the scenic load-in; observing and assisting in the strike process; other duties as needed. Interns will be required to complete modules in:

  • Technical safety

  • Scenic construction

  • Light hang and focus

  • Sound system set up

  • Load-in

  • Strike

Upon completion of this internship, interns should be able to read and create a scenic floorplan and front elevation. They should understand the process of load-in and strike; how to properly handle the construction process; how to operate sound and lighting equipment; and how to use a variety of tools.

We are looking for highly organized, detail-oriented applicants who are good at taking direction. They must love the artistic process and have a specific interest in the technical aspects of putting on a live stage production. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks are necessary for success in this internship program.

Time Commitment: Maximum of 24 hours per week.

Between Tuesdays and Fridays, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.; occasional evening and/or weekend assignments.

The specific days/hours will be determined during the interview process.
