GEE’S BEND
By Elyzabeth Gregory Wilder
Directed by donnie l. betts

Friday, Jan. 31 - Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025 | Mainstage Theater
Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
Industry Night: Monday, Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m.

Building on a tradition brought to the Fox stage with the 2024 production of AUGUST WILSON'S GEM OF THE OCEAN, GEE’S BEND tells the powerful story of a family of quilters from the isolated town of Gee’s Bend, Alabama. Spanning the years 1939, 1965, and 2002, the play follows Sadie and her family as they confront the struggles of segregation, household conflict, and the Southern Freedom Movement. Throughout their journey, the women’s extraordinary quilts offer comfort and a creative outlet, ultimately empowering them when their work is recognized as art.

As we work with the estate of August Wilson to secure the performance rights to the remaining nine parts of his seminal American Century Cycle, we proudly offer this inspiring story honoring the history of Black Americans to further the conversation Wilson began with his ten 20th century dramatic plays.

Content Advisory: Recommended for all ages.

Producer’s Note: We will resume the American Century Cycle once we have coordinated fully with the Wilson estate to establish a comprehensive schedule for the productions. JOE TURNER’S COME AND GONE will remain next on that list, and our commitment to producing the entire cycle remains steadfast.

GEE’S BEND is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc. | www.concordtheatricals.com
